Daylight Countdown ("we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information is collected when you visit our website, how cookies are used, how advertising partners serve ads, and your choices regarding data collection.

No PII Required

You can browse Daylight Countdown anonymously without registering an account or providing personal details.

Google AdSense Cookies

Third-party ad networks (including Google) use cookies to serve personalized and non-personalized ads.

Your Opt-Out Choice

You can easily opt out of personalized ad targeting via Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info.

1. Information We Collect

Personal Data: We do not require visitors to register, create accounts, or submit personally identifiable information (PII) like names, email addresses, or phone numbers to use our live countdowns, DST calculators, schedules, or articles.

Local Time Zone & Location: To calculate accurate countdowns to the next Daylight Saving Time event, our client-side code inspects your browser's local time zone (e.g. via Intl.DateTimeFormat). If you consent to browser geolocation, coordinates are processed strictly in your browser to match your approximate city and time zone. This location data is never sold, permanently stored on our servers, or shared with unauthorized third parties.

Automated Log Data: Like most web applications, our servers automatically record standard HTTP request logs (IP address, browser user-agent, referring URL, timestamp, pages visited). This data is strictly used for site security, debugging, and aggregated analytics.

2. Google AdSense & Third-Party Advertising Disclosures

Mandatory disclosure under Google Publisher Policies and EU/US Privacy Guidelines

We use Google AdSense and other third-party advertising partners to display advertisements on Daylight Countdown. Please note the following regarding how advertising cookies operate:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites on the Internet.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our visitors based on their visits to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings (https://www.google.com/settings/ads).
  • Alternatively, visitors can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info/choices/ or the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA) consumer choice page at youronlinechoices.eu.
  • For additional transparency on how Google uses data when you browse our site, you can review Google's official partner policy: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

3. Cookies, Web Beacons, and Local Storage

A cookie is a small text file stored on your computer or device when you visit a website. Daylight Countdown uses cookies and local browser storage for:

  • Essential site functionality: Storing your preferred time display settings (e.g. 12-hour vs 24-hour clocks, time zone preference, cookie consent selection).
  • Analytics: Aggregated, privacy-respecting metrics to understand which pages, countdowns, and blog posts are most useful to visitors.
  • Advertising: Enabling ad networks to serve, measure, and optimize ads, prevent fraud, and limit how often you see the same advertisement.

You can choose to disable or selectively turn off our cookies or third-party cookies in your browser settings. However, this may affect how you are able to interact with our site and other websites.

4. California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA) & GDPR Disclosures

California Residents (CCPA/CPRA): Under the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act, California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, request its deletion, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell personal data for monetary consideration. Any personalized ad delivery through Google or other networks can be managed through the opt-out links above.

European Economic Area & UK Visitors (GDPR / UK GDPR): For visitors located in the EEA or UK, we comply with the EU User Consent Policy and applicable data protection legislation. Lawful bases for processing include legitimate interest for site security and functionality, and user consent for advertising cookies. You have the right to access, rectify, or request deletion of any personal data we hold.

5. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Protecting the privacy of children is important to us. Daylight Countdown is a general-audience informational site about Daylight Saving Time and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly remove it.

6. Data Security and Third-Party Links

We use industry-standard HTTPS encryption across all pages. Our site may include links to external websites (such as the US Congress, official government time authorities, or sleep research institutions). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third-party websites and encourage you to review their respective privacy policies.
